The Tin Tinker was begun in the mid-1990s by Edward Torr as a gift to his daughter Lorrie Clauss who was selling her handmade reproduction goose feather Christmas trees. She needed tiny ornaments to decorate the trees that were just right. Thinking about what would be an old-world style craft to blend with the historical characteristic of the goose feather trees, after dabbling a bit, he soon made his first tiny tin snowflake.
After 53 years in the commercial baking and confectionary industry, he retired and his life as the original Tin Tinker began. Ed bought some sheets of tin, and a few tools and began making delightful ornaments for the holiday he and his wife Delores enjoyed the most. First, there were snowflakes, then icicles, and then candy canes soon followed.
A jolly, friendly gentleman, Ed and his ornaments soon had a following of regular customers. Featured in several local publications as the business began to thrive, it was exciting when The Tin Tinker was highlighted in Victoria magazine.
Together, Ed and Delores built the business of The Tin Tinker and were doing more than 22 shows a year by 2002.
In 2003, Ed Torr passed away after a brief illness.
In 2004, Delores sold the business to her daughter Lorrie and her husband Andy as they decided to carry on the business in honor of Ed. They believe in his dream for The Tin Tinker to be a stand-out handmade craft in the industry by selling ornaments made with traditional hand tools, and stand behind their one of a kind ornaments, while always offering exceptional customer service.
